Mălaimare Jr. got his breakthrough working for Frances Ford Coppola on three consecutive dramas “Youth Without Youth,” “Tetro” and “Twixt,” before earning widespread acclaim for Paul Thomas Anderson’s “The Master.” The cinematographer earned several prizes for his work on “The Master,” including the National Society of Film Critics award for Best Cinematography, but he somehow missed out on an Oscar nomination.
